Canadian Scholars’ Press Inc. (CSPI) was founded in 1986 and is one of Canada’s leading independent academic and trade publishing companies. We remain one of a small number of firms publishing texts, scholarly works, and general interest titles that present themes and issues of particular interest to the Canadian market.  Our academic publishing program creates books that make a genuine and lasting contribution to the evolution of a wide variety of disciplines. We seek to foreground the work of leading Canadian scholars as well as up-and-coming academics, always paying special attention to editorial detail and quality of presentation. CSPI is committed to maintaining our reputation for excellence in scholarship, research, and education, and we are proud to offer exceptional books for exceptional value.

Women’s Press, Canada’s oldest English-language feminist publisher, was founded under collective ownership in 1972. It became an imprint of Canadian Scholars’ Press in 2000. CSPI has upheld the press’s commitment to conserving a space in the publishing industry devoted to the circulation of women’s ideas, through high-quality feminist writing that contributes to the cultural and social identity of Canada. Women’s Press books are geared toward both the academic and the general market. We produce texts that can be used in teaching a variety of social science subjects; we also publish a select number of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction titles.

Sumach Press began in 2000, publishing dynamic feminist books that explore the role of women and the social and political issues affecting them. Now as an imprint of CSPI, Sumach Press will continue to publish a wide variety of thought-provoking and engaging books that showcase high quality works by women authors. You can browse our list of Sumach titles here.

Under the Kellom Books imprint, established by CSPI in 2005, we publish cutting-edge poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction by men.

Canadian Scholars’ Press gratefully acknowledges financial support for our publishing activities from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Government of Canada through the Book Publishing Industry Development Program.
